Norman G. Catt, 77, Calumet City, IL was born February 2, 1937 in Crawford County, IL near Hardinville, IL.  Norman graduated from Hardinville Grade School 1950, Oblong High School in 1954, Eastern Illinois University 1958 with a Major in Business Education and Minor in Journalism and Social Studies.  He attended Chicago State College, South Suburban College and Travel School at Purdue Calumet.  Norman taught at Maroa-Forsyth High School August 1958 to June 1960, Freelandville, IN High School August 1960 to June 1963, Thornton Fractional North High School August 1963 to June 1992, night school at South Suburban College August 1963 to June 1992, Adult Education Center Director for South Suburban College and Outstanding night school teacher for South Suburban College.  Norman also worked as a telephone operator for Hardinville Telephone Company, he was typist for Tempco Products, summer 1957,  clerk for Omar Bakeries, summer 1958, part time work for CPA firm, summer 1961, editor for college yearbook 1957 and 1958, typist for college newspaper and year book 1954-1958, travel agent for Travel Services 1979-1980 and product demonstrator for Texas Instruments for 2 years at  K Mart.

Norman was a member of the National Honor Society, Illinois Scholarship Winner, member of Pi Delta Epsilon honorary journalism fraternity, member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity, an outstanding journalism student at Eastern Illinois University, 1958, outstanding Young Man of America 1967, 1970, 1973, Community Leader of America 1968, outstanding Personality of Midwest 1968, president  of Calumet City Jaycees 1970, Junior Chamber International Senator (highest Jaycee award), founder and director of Miss Southern Cook County Scholarship Pageant 1967 (Miss America Preliminary), board of directors of Miss Illinois Local Pageants Association, president  of Local Pageants Association, Awards Chairman for Miss Illinois Pageant, past member of Calumet City Kiwanis, Calumet City Diamond Jubilee Spectacle Chairman 1968, chairman of Calumet City Centennial 1992-1993, member , officer, actor of Calumet City Theater Guild, founder and director of Miss Cityfest, Ms Cityfest Senior and Mr. Cityfest Hunk.

Norman judged Miss America Preliminaries in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, judged Miss Illinois National Teenage and Pre-teen, judged Kids of America in Dallas, Texas (300 participants), appointed by Mayor Stefaniak to serve on Cultural Arts Committee for South Suburbs, severed as Junior class sponsor at Thornton Fractional North High School and was the first sponsor to have Prom in Chicago on Spirit of Chicago boat and Drake Hotel, founder of Purple and Goldtimers Club (for retirees of Thornton Fractional North High School) and oversees monthly breakfast and publishes newsletter for Purple and Goldtimes.  Norman was also a member of Hardinville United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church in Hammond, IN. where he was Director of Communications and was awarded Honoree of 2007 at First United Methodist Church for volunteer work and service to the church.

Norman is survived by his nephew, Greg and Karen Catt of Plano, IL. (formerly of Robinson, IL.) great nephew Justin Catt and great-great nephew Kellen Catt also survived by aunts and an uncle.  He was preceded in death by two brothers Wayne and Warren (Shirley) Catt and a great-great nephew Jacob Catt.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 6635 Hohman Ave., Hammond, IN.  Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday from 4~8 p.m. at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
